What matters most to residents? Soha Housing is helping bring residents’ views to the development of the Social Housing White Paper.
The White Paper is proposed legislation which sets out the actions the Government will take to ensure that residents in social housing are safe, are listened to, live in good quality homes, and have access to redress when things go wrong.
Two Soha residents are joining others in Bristol on Friday 28 October to meet Kate Dodsworth, Director for Consumer Regulation at the Regulator of Social Housing.
She wants to hear from tenants directly to better understand what matters to them. PlaceShapers, the national network of community-focused housing associations of which Soha is a member, is working with members to create these discussions.
The focus of the sessions will be:
- How the Regulator works, and how its role fits with the Housing Ombudsman, the government, and landlords
- Residents’ views about how the proposals from the Regulator will deliver on the aims of the social housing white paper
- Residents’ experiences and views about landlord services
- Residents’ views on what good tenant engagement is like
- Residents’ views on how the Regulator can best hear from tenants
Soha resident Angela Harding said: “This is my first face-to-face opportunity since meeting with Alok Sharma MP’s roadshow following the Grenfell disaster. Since 2018 I have trodden the path through legislation consultation online. Finally, we are at White Paper stage and the Regulator is travelling the country to meet us. I will be so happy when we see this legislation working for tenants!”
Our residents attending the event in Bristol, facilitated and led by Brighter Places, will join residents from six other organisations:

- Coastline Housing
- North Devon Homes
- Teign Housing
- Selwood Housing
