Is it legal to install CCTV around my home?

With the Christmas season approaching, many of us will be eagerly awaiting parcels big and small to arrive on our doorsteps. Installing CCTV surveillance, like a doorbell camera, is a convenient way to see that your package has arrived safely, but how can you make sure you’re being lawful with any images you capture?

In short, if your CCTV doesn’t record any audio or sound, then you don’t need to worry. However, recording images and sound anywhere the general public may be comes with legal responsibilities. Protect yourself by reading our guidance on the use of CCTV or video doorbells.

If you’re thinking of installing CCTV around your home, please remember that this needs our permission as your landlord. Click here for the permission form if you’re a home owner, or here if you rent from us.
