Why retrofit?

What does the process involve?
The first part of the process involves an assessment of your home. It’s called a PAS 2035.
What is PAS 2035 and retrofit?
PAS 2035 sets out in detail what retrofit work is needed within your home. It takes into account the entire building from a technical perspective and details what energy efficiency measures (EEMs’) we need to install.
How long will the retrofit assessment take?
The assessment survey takes roughly 2 hours.
What will the assessment be used for?
The assessment will find out the energy efficiency measures needed for your home. This is to achieve government targets for Energy Performance Certificate Rating C by 2030 and net zero carbon by 2050. This is likely to include improvements such as loft/cavity wall/external wall insulation or replacement windows/doors or a combination of these.
When will the assessment be carried out and who by?
The Insulation Assurance Authority Commercial Services (IAA CS) will carry out the survey; they will arrange a convenient time to visit you.
The assessor will consider how we may be able to improve the heating or insulation of your home. They will also check ventilation to make sure that when your home is newly insulated you won’t experience future problems with condensation or mould.
As part of this process the assessor may carry out a ventilation test using two air cylinders. The test is not disruptive and will produce a small puff of air which is monitored by a receiver. The assessment will check how much ventilation you have and how much you’ll need after the new measures are installed.
If the IAA CS find a cavity (a gap between your walls) they might have to inspect using a borescope (camera). They will need to drill a hole which will be filled in after the inspection.
What are the next steps after the assessment?
Once the IAA CS has done the assessment, we will contact you to tell you what work they think is needed to improve the energy rating of your home. We will also tell you when this work is likely to be carried out
The IAA CS and members of Soha’s energy team will visit you while the work is being carried out to make sure it is being done correctly and high standard needed.
Once the work has finished, we will visit you to check the work has been finished to your satisfaction and there are no outstanding issues to resolve. If there are, we will resolve them immediately.
Who will be carrying out these works?
E.ON, who you may know better as an energy supply company, will be working with contractors Sterling if there is external wall insulation or roof insulation to be done. Windows and doors will be replaced by Anglian. We will work closely with all our partners to make sure the work is carried out carefully and professionally with the minimum possible disruption to you.
