What is asbestos?
- It’s a material using in some buildings built before 2000.
- It’s safe if left in good condition, but dangerous if damaged or disturbed.
What Soha does
We have clear plans in place to help us identify, remove or manage any asbestos found in your home.
- We survey and monitor our homes and communal areas for asbestos.
- We keep an asbestos register and update it regularly.
- If asbestos is damaged or could be distrubed, we will remove it using licensed contractors.
- Before major works, we carry out specialist asbestos surveys and share results with contractors.
- Our staff and contractors receive training to recognise and deal with asbestos safely.
- We give residents information about asbestos in their home at sign-up.
What you should do
- Do not drill, sand, or cut into walls, ceilings, or floors that may contain asbestos.
- Do not try to remove asbestos yourself.
- Report damage immediately (for example, cracked tiles, broken ceiling panels or disturbed insulation).
- Keep vents and surfaces clear and allow contractors access for checks.
If you’re worried
- We’ll tell you if asbestos is present in your home and how it is being managed.
- If asbestos is causing you distress, we may consider removal even if it’s in good condition.
- Only trained and licensed contractors will carry out any asbestos work.
